Chicago – March 26, 2026

Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey has accused Donald Trump of acting like an “international gangster” in a blistering House of Commons attack, as tensions rose over Trump’s threats linked to Greenland and tariffs on European allies.

Davey said Trump was behaving like a bully who believes he can “grab whatever he wants using force if necessary,” and argued that appeasing him had failed. He also mocked calls to reward Trump with a Nobel Peace Prize, saying those who had backed such recognition should be punished, according to reports of his remarks.

The comments drew wide attention because they came amid broader transatlantic strain over trade, NATO, and U.S. pressure on Denmark over Greenland. Davey said the UK should stand with European allies rather than continue to flatter Trump.
