Chicago – April 02, 2026

Salah Sarsour, president of the Islamic Society of Milwaukee, was reportedly detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) under circumstances described by community leaders as unlawful and politically motivated.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage among Muslim advocacy groups and civil rights organizations demanding his immediate release and a full investigation into the agency’s actions.

According to local sources, Sarsour was taken into custody without proper legal documentation or prior notice, raising concerns over due process violations. Community representatives argue that his detention reflects a troubling pattern of profiling against Muslim leaders in the United States.

The Islamic Society of Milwaukee, one of the state’s largest Muslim institutions, called the act a “grave abuse of authority,” urging federal oversight of ICE procedures.

As protests continue to build, national organizations, including the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), are pressing the Department of Homeland Security for accountability and transparency in the case.
