Belgian MEP Marc Botenga has voiced strong criticism against the European Union’s support for Israel amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Speaking in the European Parliament, Botenga challenged the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs after she called Israel a “very good partner” during her recent visit. He asked, “Very good partners in what? In crime? In genocide? In ethnic cleansing?” and said such words are a disgrace to the European Union.

Botenga highlighted the devastating situation in Gaza, pointing to the high number of civilian casualties, including many women and children, and the destruction of hospitals and ambulances. He argued that by continuing to supply arms to Israel, the EU is complicit in what he described as acts of genocide. He called for an immediate ceasefire and urged the EU to suspend all trade and cooperation agreements with Israel that violate human rights.

His remarks reflect growing concern within the European Parliament about the EU’s position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Botenga’s call for accountability and stronger support for Palestinian rights adds to the ongoing debate about how the EU should respond to the crisis and the occupation.
