Chicago Mayor Criticizes New Law Signed by President Trump

Mayor Brandon Johnson of Chicago has spoken out strongly against a new law signed by President Donald Trump called the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. The Mayor believes the law will hurt many people in Chicago and across Illinois. He called the bill “an abomination” during a press conference.

The law, according to Mayor Johnson, will make life harder for poor families. He said it could cause Illinois to lose almost $50 billion over the next 10 years because of cuts to Medicaid, a program that helps people with health care. About a million people in Chicago, including many children, depend on Medicaid, and these cuts could harm them.

In addition to health care cuts, the bill will also reduce food assistance programs. Around 600,000 people in Chicago rely on SNAP, a program that helps provide food for those in need. The Mayor believes these cuts will make it harder for people to survive.

Education will also be affected. The bill will lead to cuts in public schools, and changes to student loans will make it harder for poor and middle-class families to afford college. The Mayor called this a “massive transfer of wealth” from poor and working families to the wealthiest people in the country.

He warned that cutting important services like food, health care, and education for everyday Americans will help pay for a $1 trillion tax cut for the richest people in the country. The Mayor called the law unfair and harmful to Chicagoans.
