Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino is thinking about quitting his job, according to people who spoke to CNN. This comes after a big argument between the FBI and the Justice Department about the release of new information connected to the Jeffrey Epstein case.
The disagreement happened during a meeting on Wednesday with several top officials: Bongino, Attorney General Pam Bondi, FBI Director Kash Patel, and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. During the meeting, Bongino and Patel were asked if they had leaked a story to NewsNation. The story claimed the FBI wanted to release more information, but the Justice Department stopped them. Bongino said he wasn’t the one who shared that with the media, but he also didn’t agree to support a public statement defending how the review was handled.
CNN reached out to Bongino and the FBI, but they haven’t responded yet. People close to the situation said Bongino hasn’t made a final decision, and he might stay in his role.
The meeting follows growing frustration from people close to former President Donald Trump, who are upset with how Attorney General Bondi is handling the Epstein documents. Some of Trump’s strongest supporters have criticized her for days.
Bongino didn’t show up to work on Friday, which led some to believe he had already resigned. But as of Friday afternoon, one source said he was still in his position.
