Chicago – June 10, 2025

SEOUL, South Korea — Two members of the famous K-pop group BTS have finished their mandatory military service, bringing the band closer to reuniting after a break from group activities.

BTS has been on a pause since June 2022 to allow members to focus on solo projects and serve in the South Korean military. All seven members are expected to finish their military service by the end of June.

On Tuesday, Kim Nam-joon (RM) and Kim Tae-hyung (V) were released from the military and greeted cheering fans and the media in their military uniforms in Chuncheon City. They thanked their fans and fellow soldiers. RM, the group’s leader, said he is excited to make music and return to the stage as soon as possible.

RM and V join Jin and J-Hope, who were discharged last year after serving for 18 months. Members Jimin and Jung Kook are also set to be released this week, while the final member, Suga, will finish his service later in June.

In South Korea, all able-bodied men are required to serve in the military, and only a few top athletes and performers are allowed to skip active duty. This service has been a key part of the band’s career pause.
