Chicago – February 08, 2025

Community Health Center, Inc. (CHC), a healthcare provider in Connecticut, recently reported a significant data breach affecting over a million people in the United States. The breach was discovered on January 2, when CHC noticed unusual activity in its computer systems.

Upon investigation, the organization confirmed that a hacker had gained access to its systems and stolen data, but did not lock or delete any information, which is often the case in ransomware attacks.

According to a filing with the Maine Attorney General’s Office, 1,060,936 individuals were impacted by the breach. The stolen data varies based on the person’s connection with CHC. Information that may have been accessed includes personal details such as names, birthdates, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, diagnoses, treatment history, test results, Social Security numbers, and health insurance details.

While the breach raises serious concerns about the safety of sensitive healthcare data, it is important to note that the hacker did not deploy ransomware, which could have caused more damage by locking CHC’s systems.

The incident adds to the growing number of cyberattacks targeting the healthcare industry, following other major breaches like the 2024 Ascension attack and the Change Healthcare breach.
