Chicago – June 21, 2025

The Pentagon will hold a briefing on Sunday morning to discuss the recent U.S. airstrikes on Iran. This is the first time President Trump has directly acted in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran. Trump called the strikes on three nuclear sites in Iran a “spectacular military success.”

“Iran’s important nuclear sites have been completely destroyed,” Trump said in a speech from the White House on Saturday night. “Iran, the bully of the Middle East, must now seek peace. If they don’t, future attacks will be much stronger and easier.”

Gen. Dan Cain, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth are scheduled to speak at a press conference at 8 a.m. ET.

Republican leaders in Congress praised the president’s actions, but Democratic leaders argued that Trump violated the Constitution by not asking Congress for approval and said his actions could put American troops and other personnel at risk.
