Chicago – August 14, 2026

Rep. Rashida Tlaib is facing criticism for supporting progressive candidates challenging two Jewish Democratic House members in Florida’s upcoming primary elections.

Tlaib is scheduled to appear at a Fort Lauderdale rally backing left-wing candidates, including Oliver Larkin, who is challenging Rep. Jared Moskowitz, and another progressive candidate opposing Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Both incumbents are Jewish Democrats and prominent supporters of Israel.

Florida Republican Rep. Randy Fine accused Tlaib of deliberately targeting Jewish Democrats, saying he believes it is “no coincidence.” Critics have also pointed to Tlaib’s long-standing criticism of Israel and her support for candidates backed by progressive groups.

However, the races are also being shaped by Florida’s newly redrawn congressional districts. The redistricting has made both contests significantly more complicated and competitive.

Tlaib’s involvement is likely to intensify the debate over Israel, antisemitism and the future direction of the Democratic Party.
