US Congressman submits impeachment filing against Trump over Gaza

Chicago – April 04, 2025

Ethnic cleansing in Gaza is no joke, and the Prime Minister of Israel should be ashamed. Knowing the history of his people to stand there and allow such things to be said.

Ethnic cleansing has been a crime against humanity. And I stand here in the well to denounce what he said to denounce what the President said to denounce the complicity of Prime Minster of Israel and to remind people that Dr. King was right.

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. Injustice in Gaza is a threat to justice in the United States of America. I rise to announce that the movement to impeach the President has begun. I rise to announce that I will bring articles of impeachment against the President.

Texas Democratic Representative Al Green said that he plans to file articles of impeachment against President Trump after Trump suggested the US take control of Gaza.

If successful, Trump would become the first U.S. president to be impeached three times, having already made history as the first to be impeached twice during his first term.

In a speech on the House floor, Congressman Green condemned Trump’s recent remarks urging the U.S. to “take over” Gaza. Trump, while meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, suggested that the U.S. should “own it,” “level the site,” and use it for “economic development,” an idea Netanyahu later praised.

There are moments that shock the conscience. Some things make you think, This can’t be real, Green said. It was astonishing to witness the President and the Israeli Prime Minister standing together, with the President advocating for a takeover of Gaza.

Despite Green’s efforts, reports suggest he has little backing from Democrats. Representative Pete Aguilar, the third-ranking House Democrat, told Politico that the caucus is not prioritizing Green’s initiative. Similarly, when asked by Axios whether the impeachment effort might gain traction, a senior House Democrat simply responded, “No.”

However, Green made it clear that he has no intention of lobbying for support.

I’m not going to lobby a single person, he stated. I’m not going to ask anyone to vote for this resolution.

I believe people should have the opportunity to do what they perceive as right—or more importantly, what they see as the righteous thing to do, he added.

Green is not alone in speaking out against Trump’s remarks. Global leaders have also condemned the call for the U.S. to take over Gaza. Saudi Arabia firmly rejected the forced displacement of Palestinians, while U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer insisted that Palestinians “must be allowed to return home.” Officials from France and Germany echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that any forced relocation of Palestinians would violate international law.
