The recent release of Udaipur Files, a controversial film claiming to depict the events surrounding the tragic Udaipur killing of 2022, has ignited strong reactions for its highly problematic portrayal of Islam and Prophet Muhammad (SAWW). Many Muslim scholars, social activists, and film critics have condemned the movie for promoting a narrative that dangerously stereotypes an entire faith.
The film sensationalizes a brutal crime committed by two individuals and unfairly projects their actions as representative of mainstream Islamic teachings. Several scenes wrongly associate Islam with violence, twisting religious texts and implying that Prophet Muhammad (SAWW) encouraged aggression — a claim historically and theologically false. Islamic teachings, firmly rooted in mercy, justice, and peace, strictly prohibit murder and promote tolerance.
By framing religious beliefs in a misleading, inflammatory manner, Udaipur Files risks deepening communal divides and fostering hatred. The film’s irresponsible storytelling disregards the Prophet’s legacy of compassion and peaceful coexistence, turning a sensitive issue into communal propaganda. Many have demanded regulatory intervention against such content that defames religious figures and endangers social harmony.
