Chicago – October 17, 2025

Sir Syed Day Commemoration celebrations were held at Gulistan-e-Syed Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Aligarh, UP, India. This event marked the 208th anniversary of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan on October 17, 2025. Tribute was paid to Sir Syed’s remarkable contributions to the promotion of higher education among Indians. He was of the vision that people should focus on the unity Indian nation irrespective of the religion.

During the difficult times of united India, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan confronted widespread ignorance, communal tensions, and resistance to modern education within his community. Despite these obstacles, he tirelessly worked to establish institutions like the Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College—now Aligarh Muslim University. His visionary efforts planted the seeds of progress and empowerment, which enabled future generations of Indian Muslims to benefit from educational opportunities and contribute significantly to the nation’s development.

The ceremony was presided over by AMU’s Vice Chancellor Prof. Naima Khatoon. Dr. S. Somanath, Chairman of ISRO, attended as the Guest of Honour, while Justice Abdul Shahid graced the ceremony as Chief Guest. Renowned author and publisher Miss Milee Ashwarya joined as the Special Guest. AMU alumnus, CEO CPN Engineer Mujeeb Osman from Chicago, USA was also invited by Prof. Naima Khatoon.

The event began at 10:45 a.m. and lasted until evening. Over 10,000 participants along with 3,200 resident students attended the event. Aligarh Muslim University hosts thousands of international students from unprivileged and war torn countries like Somalia.

The celebration featured cultural programs, academic recognitions, and speeches reflecting Sir Syed’s vision of progress through knowledge, unity, and reform, keeping his legacy alive for the next generation.
