Chicago – February 04, 2026

A US Navy aircraft carrier operating in the Arabian Sea came under a potential threat on Tuesday after an Iranian drone reportedly moved toward the vessel in what officials described as an aggressive manner.

According to a US military spokesperson, the drone was intercepted and destroyed after it approached the USS Abraham Lincoln with what appeared to be “unclear intent,” raising immediate security concerns for the carrier and the personnel on board.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) spokesman Capt. Tim Hawkins confirmed that an F-35C stealth fighter jet, launched from the USS Abraham Lincoln, shot down the Iranian drone in self-defence.
The action was taken to protect the aircraft carrier and ensure the safety of US forces operating in the region.

Officials said the aircraft carrier was positioned roughly 500 miles off Iran’s coastline when the drone moved closer. Because the drone’s purpose was not immediately known, the US military treated the incident as a possible threat and responded accordingly.
