Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is “compromised” following the recently announced India–US trade deal. Speaking to the media, Gandhi claimed the agreement was finalised under pressure from the United States and accused the Prime Minister of sacrificing the interests of Indian farmers.
Rahul Gandhi said the government had “sold out the blood and sweat of farmers” by agreeing to concessions that could negatively impact agriculture and small producers. He further alleged that the Prime Minister “buckled under pressure” and linked the decision to external factors, claims that have intensified political debate over the deal.
The BJP strongly rejected the allegations, calling them baseless and politically motivated. Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal defended the agreement, stating that India’s core interests, including agriculture and dairy, remain protected. The India–US trade deal has emerged as a major flashpoint between the ruling party and the opposition, with both sides offering sharply contrasting interpretations of its impact.
