Chicago – February 07, 2026

US President Donald Trump is reportedly preparing to host a high-level meeting in Washington that would also serve as a fundraising conference for Gaza reconstruction, according to Axios. While the plans are still in their early stages and subject to change, the event is expected to take place at the US Institute of Peace.

The timing of the proposed gathering is notable. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to meet Trump at the White House on February 18, just one day before the planned conference. The proximity of the two events has drawn attention, particularly amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East. Neither the White House nor the US State Department responded to requests for comment regarding the reported meeting.

The potential conference aims to address the urgent need for rebuilding efforts in Gaza, which has suffered extensive damage amid prolonged conflict. By positioning the event as both a diplomatic and fundraising initiative, Trump appears to be seeking international financial support alongside political backing. If confirmed, the meeting could signal a renewed US push to influence post-conflict reconstruction efforts in the region.

The reported conference follows Trump’s late-January announcement of a new board that he intends to chair. According to Trump, the board’s mission is to help resolve global conflicts. However, the initiative has sparked concern among foreign policy experts who fear it could weaken or sideline the role of the United Nations in international diplomacy.

Critics argue that creating parallel structures for conflict resolution risks fragmenting global governance efforts and undermining established multilateral institutions.
