Chicago – February 16, 2026

Renowned actor Robert Duvall, celebrated for his iconic roles in The Godfather and Apocalypse Now, passed away peacefully at his home in Middleburg, Virginia, on February 15, 2026. He was 95. His wife, Luciana Duvall, announced the news on social media, stating, “Yesterday we said goodbye to my beloved husband, cherished friend, and one of the greatest actors of our time. Bob passed away… surrounded by love and comfort”.

Duvall’s seven-decade career earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor in Tender Mercies (1983), where he portrayed a recovering alcoholic country singer. He also received Oscar nominations for The Godfather as consigliere Tom Hagen, Apocalypse Now as the unforgettable Lt. Col. Bill Kilgore—famous for “I love the smell of napalm in the morning”—and The Great Santini. Other highlights include Lonesome Dove, The Apostle (which he directed), and recent films like The Pale Blue Eye (2022).

A versatile performer in over 90 films and TV projects, Duvall won two Emmys, including for Broken Trail (2006). He is survived by Luciana, his wife since 2005.
