G7 foreign ministers on Friday called for an immediate halt to attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure in the Iran conflict, saying there is no justification for targeting civilians in armed conflict. They also urged Iran to restore safe, toll-free navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global energy shipments.
The joint statement, issued after talks in France, also warned that Iran’s actions threaten regional and global security. The ministers reaffirmed support for countries in the Middle East hit by Iranian attacks and backed their right to defend themselves.
The move came as tensions remained high across the region, with Washington and its allies trying to contain the war’s spillover and limit damage to energy markets and civilian populations.
