Chicago – March 29, 2026

An Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon killed three journalists on Saturday, prompting sharp condemnation from Lebanese officials and media organizations, according to Reuters, AP and AFP reports. Among the dead were Al Manar correspondent Ali Shoaib, Al Mayadeen reporter Fatima Ftouni, and Ftouni’s brother Mohammed, who worked as a cameraman.

Al Mayadeen said the vehicle was clearly marked as a press car and was hit by four precision missiles, while some reports said paramedics were also struck after the initial attack. The Israeli military said it had targeted Shoaib, alleging he worked for Hezbollah’s Radwan Force intelligence unit, but it did not provide evidence for the claim.

Lebanon’s president, Joseph Aoun, called the strike a “blatant crime” that violated protections for journalists, while Information Minister Paul Morcos described it as a war crime. The incident has renewed concern over the safety of reporters covering the Israel-Hezbollah conflict.
