Chicago – March 30, 2026

U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday warned that Iran could face widespread destruction of its energy infrastructure and other vital facilities if a deal to end the war is not reached “shortly,” according to Associated Press reporting. He said the U.S. would broaden its offensive to include power plants, oil wells, Kharg Island and possibly desalination plants that provide drinking water.

Trump said “great progress” was being made in talks with Tehran, but his remarks signaled a sharper escalation as fighting continued across the region. The warning came as Iran struck a water and electrical facility in Kuwait, and an oil refinery in Israel was also attacked.

The comments followed earlier signals that the U.S. could target Iran’s oil export infrastructure, including Kharg Island, if negotiations fail. Trump has also claimed diplomacy is advancing even as he increases military pressure on Tehran.
