Yemen’s Houthi movement said Sunday it carried out a drone strike on Saudi Aramco’s refinery in Jazan, raising concerns over energy security. Military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the operation was retaliation for Saudi drone incursions into Yemen’s Hajjah and Saada provinces.

Saudi Arabia’s Energy Ministry confirmed that a fire broke out at an Aramco refinery facility in Jazan. Security teams extinguished the blaze, and authorities reported no injuries, but the ministry did not confirm that the incident resulted from an attack.

The development follows Houthi claims last month that missiles and drones targeted Aramco-linked infrastructure in Jazan and Yanbu. Saudi Arabia has not verified responsibility for the fire.

In wider Middle East developments, Iran said messages were being exchanged with Washington while denying negotiations over reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a global shipping route. Reports said a blast and fire affected gas facilities in Jubail, although the cause and any connection to Jazan remained unconfirmed.

Incidents underscore risks to oil supplies and maritime trade.
