Chicago – March 31, 2026

Iranian authorities and international fact-checkers have dismissed viral social media claims alleging the arrest of an Indian family for spying for Israel’s Mossad over a seven-year period. The reports, which gained traction in mid-2025 and resurfaced in March 2026, suggested dozens of Indian nationals were detained in a specialized espionage crackdown.

While Iran’s Intelligence Ministry recently confirmed the arrest of nearly 40 “foreign agents” in Tehran for suspected ties to Zionism, no specific evidence links these to an Indian family. Analysts suggest the rumors may be a misinterpretation of the 2023 Qatar espionage case involving Indian naval officers. Both the Indian Ministry of External Affairs and Iranian state media have remained silent on any such specific arrests, labeling the claims as unsubstantiated.
