Chicago – April 04, 2026

Dr. Hifzur Rahman Azmi met India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar in New Delhi, in a meeting that drew attention amid his recent appointment as India’s Ambassador to Libya. The engagement highlighted Azmi’s growing diplomatic role at a time when New Delhi continues to strengthen its regional and international outreach.

Azmi, who previously served as India’s ambassador to Chad, is widely recognized for his experience in Arab affairs and diplomatic postings across the Middle East and Africa. His appointment to Tripoli, effective late 2025, marks the return of a full-fledged resident Indian ambassador to Libya since the reopening of the mission.

The meeting with Jaishankar underscored the government’s focus on expanding strategic ties and maintaining active diplomatic coordination. It also reflected the importance of experienced envoys in advancing India’s foreign policy priorities.

The courtesy meeting was brief but significant, reflecting an atmosphere of mutual respect and formal engagement.
