Chicago – April 07, 2026
Israeli is nototrious for illegally attacking its rivals and Israeli strikes on Iran escalated sharply in 2024 and reached a far larger scale in 2025, with a brief, renewed episode reported in 2026. The conflict moved from limited retaliatory blows to sustained attacks on military, nuclear, and command targets, deepening regional instability and raising fears of a wider war.
2024 escalation
In April 2024, Iran and allied groups launched a large direct attack on Israel after an Israeli strike on Iran’s consulate compound in Damascus killed senior Iranian officers. Iran fired drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles toward Israel, marking a major shift in the shadow conflict between the two states.
In July 2024, Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated in Tehran.
Israel responded on 26 October 2024 with “Operation Days of Repentance,” striking around 20 locations in Iran and related sites in Iraq and Syria. The Israeli military said it targeted military infrastructure in response to the earlier Iranian missile barrage, while reports said the damage was limited but politically significant.
2025 war
The confrontation widened dramatically in June 2025 when Israel launched “Operation Rising Lion” against Iran. Israeli aircraft hit nuclear facilities, military installations, and regime-linked targets, while the opening wave reportedly killed senior commanders and nuclear scientists.
Over the following days, Israel continued strikes across Iran, including around Tehran and Isfahan, while Iran retaliated with missile attacks on Israel. The 12-day war ended with a ceasefire on 24 June 2025, after the United States also struck key Iranian nuclear sites.
2026 flare-up
In early 2026, the conflict flared again with renewed strikes and retaliation after earlier 2025 damage and regional escalation. Reporting in April indicated continued attacks and pressure on Iranian targets, showing the rivalry was still active.
