Czech President Petr Pavel said Europe should do more to respond to the Iran war, but stressed that the Czech Republic is not directly involved in the conflict. In remarks to CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, Pavel said, “I believe that Europe could do much more, but we are not part of it.”
His comments came as President Donald Trump sharpened his criticism of European allies for not backing U.S.-led military actions against Iran. CNN reported that Trump has pressed European governments for stronger support, while several leaders have favored de-escalation and questioned the legality of the campaign.
The dispute highlights widening transatlantic tensions over strategy, consultation and burden-sharing in the Middle East. Pavel’s statement reflects a broader European debate over how far allies should go in supporting Washington without being drawn into the war.
The exchange underscores the strain on U.S.-Europe relations as the Iran conflict continues to ripple across global diplomacy.
