Food giants Nestlé and Danone are facing renewed scrutiny over their handling of infant formula recalls linked to possible contamination.
A joint investigation by French, Belgian, and Swiss media outlets alleged that Nestlé delayed notifying European authorities about the presence of cereulide, a toxin that can cause vomiting and diarrhea and may be especially dangerous for infants. The contamination was linked to an ingredient supplied by China-based CABIO Biotech and used in products made by Nestlé, Danone, and other manufacturers.
The reports claim some products were withdrawn from distribution before public warnings were issued, raising concerns about how quickly consumers and regulators were informed. Danone has not publicly commented on the allegations, while Nestlé said it acted transparently and cooperated fully with authorities throughout the recall process.
The recalls affected multiple countries across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and South America, sparking anxiety among parents and prompting renewed debate over food safety standards in the infant nutrition industry.
