Bollywood’s latest release Haq is drawing attention for its thematic focus on social and religious narratives, as well as the preparation undertaken by its lead actors. Starring Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi, the film seeks to explore sensitive issues related to Islamic practices and societal perceptions.
Director S. Verma revealed in a recent interview that Yami Gautam dedicated four months to studying the Quran in order to authentically portray her character, Shaziya Bano. According to Verma, this preparation was essential to ensure that the role was depicted with depth and accuracy.
The film incorporates references from the Quran, with the narrative concluding on the word “Iqra,” symbolizing knowledge and understanding. Verma stated that the primary objective of Haq is to address widespread misconceptions about Islam and present a more informed perspective to audiences.
In addition to its broader message, the film touches upon specific issues such as triple talaq and aims to clarify misunderstandings surrounding it. The concept of mehr is also highlighted, presenting it as a form of social contract within marriage.
The director further shared that the film underwent approximately one and a half years of research. This process involved studying Islamic laws and examining various social aspects to ensure the subject matter was handled with sensitivity and authenticity.
With its research-driven approach and socially relevant themes, Haq positions itself as a film that seeks not only to entertain but also to inform and provoke thoughtful discussion.
