Chicago – July 04, 2026

Protests linked to India’s satirical “Cockroach Party” continued across several cities this week, as demonstrators remained on the streets despite extreme temperatures exceeding 40°C. The movement, which began as an online critique of political corruption and bureaucratic inefficiency, has evolved into a broader grassroots campaign attracting students, activists, and civil society groups.

Protesters, many carrying symbolic cockroach imagery, say the insect represents resilience and survival in difficult conditions—qualities they claim ordinary citizens are forced to adopt. Demonstrations have been reported in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and smaller urban centers, with participants demanding transparency, governance reforms, and action on rising living costs.

Authorities have expressed concern over public safety as heatwave conditions intensify. Medical teams and volunteers have been deployed in some areas to assist protesters suffering from heat exhaustion. Police presence has also increased, though most gatherings have remained peaceful.

Organizers insist the protests will continue until their demands are addressed, highlighting growing public frustration amid economic and environmental pressures across the country.
