Chicago – January 01, 2025

President Joe Biden has called the New Year’s Day attack in New Orleans “horrific” and said there is “no justification” for the violence, which the FBI is investigating as an act of terrorism.

Early Wednesday morning, a vehicle sped through a crowd on Bourbon Street, killing at least 15 people and injuring 25 others, according to authorities. The driver, described by police as “hell-bent” on causing harm, exited the vehicle with an assault weapon but was shot and killed by officers on the scene.

In a written statement, Biden said he had been briefed by federal law enforcement, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, and other officials, as well as the Mayor of New Orleans.

Speaking briefly before traveling to Camp David, Biden assured the public that federal and state agencies are working together to uncover the facts. “I’ve contacted every agency to make sure they’re coordinating efforts,” he said, declining to answer specific questions about the suspect’s identity.

Biden pledged continued updates as the investigation progresses.
