Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has made it clear that Canada will not become part of the United States. This comes after President-elect Trump suggested that Canada should become the 51st US state.

Trudeau responded strongly, saying “There isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell that Canada would become part of the United States.” He emphasized the benefits of Canada and the US being separate countries, highlighting their strong trading and security partnership.

Trump had previously stated that if Canada were to join the US, it would not be through military force, but rather “economic force”. He also claimed that many Canadians would welcome becoming part of the US, and that it would bring benefits such as no tariffs, lower taxes, and increased security.

However, Trudeau’s rejection of the proposal is not surprising, given the significant differences between the two countries. Trudeau also announced his resignation as Prime Minister and leader of the Liberal Party, citing pressure from within his own party and criticisms over his handling of the economy.

The Liberal Party will now appoint an interim prime minister to lead the country until the elections next fall. This could potentially give the party a chance to regain support and rebrand itself before the next election.
