Canada has begun imposing new retaliatory tariffs on about $20 billion worth of U.S. goods, escalating an already tense trade dispute with Washington. The measures, ranging from 15% to 50%, target hundreds of American products, including agricultural, industrial and consumer goods.

The move came as U.S. President Donald Trump intensified pressure on Canada by threatening to block Canadian aircraft manufacturer Bombardier from selling jets in the United States unless the company manufactures aircraft domestically. Trump argued that Bombardier must build in the U.S. if it wants continued access to the American market.

The threat has raised concerns across the aerospace industry because Bombardier has thousands of U.S. employees and works with thousands of American suppliers. Analysts also question how easily sales could be halted given the company’s deeply integrated North American supply chain.

The latest developments signal a further deterioration in U.S.-Canada trade relations, with businesses facing growing uncertainty over tariffs, investment and cross-border supply chains.
