Chicago – August 11, 2026

U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar has asked the Trump administration for answers after an undercover Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agent was found outside one of her town hall events in Richfield, Minnesota.

According to reports, a local police officer became suspicious of the agent after noticing that the vehicle’s license plates did not match the vehicle. The agent initially identified herself as security before acknowledging that she was an HSI officer conducting an undercover drug investigation. Local law enforcement had not been informed of the operation.

Omar has questioned how the agent learned about the event and why she was stationed outside the venue. She also asked whether federal agents have monitored other political events involving her or other Minnesota officials.

The incident has raised broader questions about the use of federal immigration and investigative agencies around political gatherings. There is currently no public evidence establishing that Omar or her critics were the target of surveillance. DHS has not publicly explained the operation.
