Democrat Adam Gray has won California’s 13th Congressional District race, defeating Republican Rep. John Duarte, according to The Associated Press. This race was one of the closest and most competitive in California, and it took the longest to be called.
Gray, a former state legislator, represented California’s 21st Assembly District from 2012 to 2022. He is known as a centrist Democrat who focused on important issues for farmers in the Central Valley, including water shortages. He also campaigned for renewable energy solutions.
After the results came in, Gray shared his excitement on X (formerly Twitter), saying that the outcome showed residents wanted “independent and accountable leadership” that puts the people first, not politics.
“I’m honored to become the Congressman-elect for California’s 13th District. The work has just begun,” Gray wrote. He promised to work hard in Washington to bring more clean water, better schools, stronger infrastructure, and more jobs to the Valley. He also pledged to build bipartisan relationships to get these goals accomplished.
This race was a rematch from 2022, when Duarte won by just 564 votes. Duarte, a businessman and farmer, campaigned on issues like inflation, crime, and farming concerns.
