Chicago – January 06, 2026

The BJP on Tuesday took a swipe at the Congress after the party assigned Priyanka Gandhi Vadra a key role in its campaign planning for the upcoming Assam elections. BJP leaders mocked Rahul Gandhi, claiming the move reflects confusion within the Congress leadership and highlights the party’s continued dependence on the Gandhi family. They argued that instead of strengthening its organisation on the ground, Congress is focusing on reshuffling family roles to stay politically relevant.

Congress, however, rejected the criticism and said Priyanka Gandhi’s involvement is aimed at boosting the party’s outreach and energising workers in the Northeast, a region where it has struggled in recent years. Party leaders maintained that Rahul Gandhi remains central to Congress’s national strategy, while Priyanka’s role will complement ongoing efforts in key states like Assam.

Political observers say the move has sparked debate over whether Congress is attempting to create a new power centre within the party or simply deploying senior leaders strategically ahead of crucial state elections.
