Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco has announced his candidacy for California governor in the 2026 election. Bianco, a Republican and supporter of President Donald Trump’s 2024 election, made the announcement on Monday, stating his intention to succeed term-limited Governor Gavin Newsom.

Bianco, who has been in law enforcement for over three decades, emphasized his tough-on-crime policies and criticized California’s Democratic elected officials for the state’s decline. “It is only our Democrat elected officials who are responsible for the decline of California,” he said, citing issues such as rampant crime, higher taxes, and a high cost of living.

Bianco highlighted his past success in combating internet predators, particularly in 2006 when he collaborated with Dateline on the “To Catch a Predator” operation. This effort led to the arrest of 51 individuals preying on children in Southern California and beyond.
