Chicago – January 01, 2026

Congress leaders Rashid Alvi and V. Hanumantha Rao sharply criticised Mohan Bhagwat after his recent remarks about “Hindu Rashtra” and cultural resurgence. They accused him — and by extension the BJP — of pushing a divisive agenda, undermining India’s secular character, and focusing on image-building rather than action.

Rao additionally asserted that Bhagwat is working to turn India into a “Hindu Rashtra” and erase the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi.

These clashes reflect ongoing ideological and political battles between the Indian National Congress and the RSS/BJP ecosystem, particularly over issues like secularism, nationalism, cultural identity, and the role of religion in public life.

In the past, Congress leaders including Rahul Gandhi have also criticised Bhagwat for comments on independence and identity, though these were from earlier years.
