A luxury resort project linked to Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner is facing growing opposition in Albania, where locals and environmental groups say the development could harm protected coastal ecosystems.
The proposed project includes a high-end resort on Sazan Island and additional development near the ecologically sensitive Narta Lagoon. Critics argue that construction could threaten wildlife habitats, including areas used by migratory birds, and reduce public access to parts of the coastline.
Protests have been held in Tirana and near the proposed sites, with demonstrators calling for greater transparency and stronger environmental protections. Conservation groups have also questioned whether sufficient public consultation took place before the project advanced.
The Albanian government has defended the investment, saying it could boost tourism, create jobs, and support economic growth. The debate has become a focal point in discussions over balancing development with environmental conservation.
