Maulana Syed Salman Hussaini Nadwi, a prominent Islamic scholar, author and educator, passed away in Lucknow on Monday at the age of 72. His death prompted widespread tributes from religious scholars, institutions and students across India and abroad.
Born in 1954 into a distinguished family of Islamic scholars, Nadwi studied at Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama and later dedicated decades to teaching there, eventually serving as Dean of the Faculty of Dawah and Shariah. He earned widespread respect for his expertise in Islamic theology, jurisprudence, Hadith and Seerah.
A prolific Arabic and Urdu writer, Nadwi authored numerous books and articles on Islamic history, contemporary issues and Muslim society. He also helped establish educational institutions and held leadership roles as president of Jamiat Shabaab ul Islam and chairman of Dr Abdul Ali Unani Medical College.
Religious leaders, organisations and former students remembered him as a distinguished scholar, inspiring teacher and eloquent speaker whose contributions to Islamic education will have a lasting legacy. His funeral prayers were held in Lucknow and attended by a large gathering of scholars, students and admirers.
