A brutal assault in Bihar has drawn national attention after a Muslim woman, Roshan Khatoon, died from injuries sustained in a mob attack in Madhubani district. According to reports, she was beaten by a group of villagers while being tied to a pole following a local dispute and later succumbed to her injuries in hospital.
Family members and witnesses have alleged that she was subjected to extreme abuse during the attack, including being forced to consume a mixture of urine and alcohol when she was extremely thirsty.
The case has taken a controversial turn after one of the accused was granted bail, a development that has intensified anger and grief among the victim’s family. The accused was welcomed with garlands and fireworks after his release from jail. The victim’s son and relatives say they feel abandoned by the system, arguing that justice remains out of reach despite the severity of the crime.
Local police have said the investigation is ongoing, with multiple arrests made and further legal proceedings expected. Meanwhile, rights advocates are calling for a thorough and transparent inquiry, as well as stronger protections against mob violence.
For the family, however, the legal process offers little comfort so far—they continue to seek accountability, saying the release of an accused has deepened their sense that justice is slipping away.
