Prof. Simi Zaka-ur-Rab has been appointed as Chairperson, Department of Ophthalmology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University, for a period of three years with effect from February 16, 2026.

A distinguished ophthalmologist and academician, Prof. Simi Zaka-ur-Rab has been serving as Professor at the Institute of Ophthalmology, AMU, since 2011. She completed her M.B.B.S. and M.S. (Ophthalmology) from AMU and subsequently earned her D.N.B. in Ophthalmology from the National Board of Examinations, New Delhi. She has also qualified the Basic Science and International Clinical Sciences Assessments conducted by the International Council of Ophthalmology.

With over nineteen years of teaching experience after her M.S., Prof. Zaka-ur-Rab has made significant contributions to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. Her specialty clinic focuses on Retina, and she has supervised numerous M.S. theses as both supervisor and co-supervisor.

An accomplished researcher, she has authored and co-authored a substantial number of research papers in reputed national and international journals. Her work has been cited in standard ophthalmology texts. She has received several prestigious awards, including the Dr. P.K. Pandey Gold Medal and other recognitions at the Annual Conferences of the Uttar Pradesh Ophthalmological Society. She also serves as a reviewer for leading journals such as the American Journal of Ophthalmology and the Indian Journal of Ophthalmology.

Prof. Zaka-ur-Rab is a life member of several professional bodies, including the All India Ophthalmological Society and the Delhi Ophthalmological Society, and is a Member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (India).
