Chicago – April 05, 2025

After the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 was cleared by both Houses of the parliament, protests were orchestrated against it in several states across the country on Friday. According to the news agency ANI, Muslim organisations, under the banner of the Joint Forum for Waqf Protection, were seen holding protests against the bill after the Friday namaz.

A rally against the Waqf Amendment Bill was held in Ahmedabad, where the Gujarat police detained the state unit chief of the AIMIM along with 40 others. The protesters, under the leadership of state AIMIM president Sabir Kabliwala, had shouted slogans against the BJP government.

In Kolkata, visuals showed protestors carrying banners like “We reject Waqf Amendment Bill” and “Reject Waqf Bill”. “This bill is a ploy by the BJP to divide the country. They have passed the bill in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha due to their majority. We oppose this authoritarian approach. This is not just an attempt to seize Muslim properties but also to malign us,” one of the protesters told PTI.

Muslims can complain against the bill to the PM of India, the Secretary of the Chief Justice, the respective State Chief Justices and Ministers.
