Former Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer, President Donald Trump’s pick for Labor Secretary, is facing scrutiny from Republicans in the Senate due to her pro-union stance. However, her nomination has also generated interest from pro-labor Democrats.

Chavez-DeRemer’s support for the Protecting the Right to Organize Act (PRO Act) has raised concerns among Republicans. Senate Majority Leader John Thune expressed hope that she would clarify her position during the hearing process. The PRO Act is a contentious piece of legislation that opposes national right-to-work laws and preempts state laws on the issue.

Sen. Rand Paul has already announced his opposition to Chavez-DeRemer’s nomination, citing her support for the PRO Act. Chavez-DeRemer will face the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) on Wednesday, where she will need to address concerns from lawmakers like Sen. Paul.
