Chicago – May 08, 2026

Hantavirus is primarily transmitted through contact with infected rodents or their droppings and can cause severe respiratory illness in humans. Symptoms often begin with fever, fatigue, and muscle aches before progressing to serious breathing complications in severe cases.

The CDC is urging people to avoid exposure to rodent-infested areas and follow safety precautions when cleaning enclosed spaces such as sheds or cabins. Authorities are continuing investigations to identify affected regions and prevent further infections as public health teams respond to the outbreak.
