Chicago – February 23, 2026

Chicago voters have chosen “Abolish ICE” as the top name for a city snowplow in the 2026 “You Name a Snowplow” contest, giving the phrase about 80% of submissions and a decisive win among roughly 13,300 entries.

The slogan, widely used in protests against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, doubles as a play on the word “ice” and reflects backlash against President Donald Trump’s recent deployment of ICE agents in Chicago and its suburbs during a large‑scale immigration crackdown.

The contest, in its fourth year, drew record participation, with about 39,000 votes cast across six finalists. Among them is “Stephen Coldbert,” a nod to late‑night host Stephen Colbert, alongside names such as “Pope Frio XIV,” “The Blizzard of Oz,” “Svencoolie,” and “Caleb Chilliams.”

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson praised voters for their “unmatched creativity, sense of humor, and civic pride,” while city officials noted that “Abolish ICE” was the clear public favorite despite its political edge
