Former U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer and is currently recovering from treatment, she confirmed to CNN on Wednesday.
Bondi disclosed that she received the diagnosis shortly after leaving the Justice Department in April, following her dismissal by President Donald Trump. She underwent surgery a few weeks ago as part of her treatment regimen and remains in recovery, though she told reporters she is “doing well”.
The 60-year-old former Florida attorney general first had her diagnosis reported by Axios, which also noted she has been tapped for a new role on the Presidential Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, focusing on artificial intelligence policy. Thyroid cancer typically carries a high survival rate, exceeding 98% according to the Cleveland Clinic, especially when detected early.
Bondi is scheduled to testify this Friday before the House Oversight Committee regarding the Jeffrey Epstein investigation while continuing her recovery.
