Chicago – March 25, 2026
Minnesota officials filed a lawsuit on March 24, 2026, against the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to access evidence in three shootings by federal agents during an immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis earlier this year.
The suit seeks records on the fatal shootings of U.S. citizens Renee Good on January 7 and Alex Pretti on January 24, plus the wounding of Venezuelan immigrant Julio Sosa-Celis (or Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis) on January 14.
Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty and Attorney General Keith Ellison, joined by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, accuse the Trump administration of a “policy of categorically withholding evidence,” blocking state investigations despite prior cooperation promises.
Moriarty called the federal stance “unprecedented and alarming,” amid public outrage and protests. The involved officers remain on administrative leave pending a joint ICE-DOJ review, with DHS pledging transparency.
Filed in Washington, D.C. federal court, the action demands a court order for evidence sharing to uphold federalism and accountability.
