Chicago – April 20, 2026

Former President Barack Obama met New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani at a Bronx child care center on Saturday, where the two read to preschoolers and led a sing-along of “The Wheels on the Bus.” The appearance marked their first in-person meeting and came just over a week after Mamdani marked his 100th day in office.

The visit was framed around early childhood education and Mamdani’s affordability agenda, including his push for universal child care. According to CBS News, the pair did not take questions after the event, and Obama later posted that he enjoyed spending time with “New York City’s Cutest” and thanked Mamdani for the chance to sing.

Obama has previously offered to be a sounding board for Mamdani, a democratic socialist who has also been navigating a working relationship with President Donald Trump. The lighthearted preschool visit drew wide attention online, with video showing the two Democrats laughing and singing alongside the children.
