Chicago – June 12, 2026

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced Friday that the United States and Iran have reached a “final, agreed-upon text” of a peace deal to end months of conflict, marking a significant breakthrough in Pakistan’s intensive mediation efforts.

“Setting aside the noise, we can confirm that a final, agreed upon text of the peace deal has been reached,” Sharif stated, noting Pakistan is now working closely with both governments to finalize next steps. The agreement aims to conclude the war comprehensively and reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, a crucial maritime route for global oil and gas transportation.

The proposed memorandum of understanding reportedly includes significant sanctions relief and release of Iranian assets, contingent on Iran dismantling its nuclear program and transferring nuclear materials. The framework would extend the ceasefire for 60 days, including in Lebanon, during which broader nuclear negotiations proceed.

Despite the confirmation, Washington and Tehran have publicly disagreed over the contents, with Trump previously calling reported draft versions “false” amid conflicting claims on sanctions and nuclear terms. Iran’s foreign ministry described the proposal as “never been closer” to finalization.
