Chicago – January 08, 2025

A recent Gallup poll shows that many Americans think President Joe Biden will be remembered as a less effective leader. According to the survey, 54% of people believe Biden will be viewed as “below average” or “poor” when looking back at his presidency. Specifically, 37% think he will be “below average” and 17% say “poor.”

Only a small group, 19%, feel that Biden will have a positive legacy, with 6% rating him as “outstanding” and 13% as “above average.” Meanwhile, 26% of Americans think he will be seen as an “average” president.

In a comparison with nine other recent U.S. presidents, Biden ranks higher only than Richard Nixon, who had a very low net positivity rating. Presidents like Jimmy Carter, Donald Trump, and George W. Bush, who also faced tough times while in office, saw their popularity increase after their terms ended. This might happen for Biden too, according to Gallup.

The most admired president in the poll was John F. Kennedy, followed by Ronald Reagan. The poll, conducted from December 2 to 18, surveyed 1,003 U.S. adults and has a margin of error of 4%. The White House did not comment on the poll results when asked.
