Chicago – October 05, 2025

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President Asaduddin Owaisi recently challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s assertions regarding the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s (RSS) involvement in India’s independence movement.

Owaisi contended that no RSS member sacrificed their life or faced imprisonment for the nation’s freedom, labeling such claims as misleading and an insult to the sacrifices made by true freedom fighters.

Owaisi highlighted the contributions of several Muslim soldiers who played pivotal roles in India’s military history. Captain Hanif Uddin, awarded the Vir Chakra posthumously, displayed exceptional courage during the Kargil War, leading his unit in the Turtuk sector despite severe conditions.

Brigadier Mohammad Usman, known as the “Lion of Naushera,” was the highest-ranking officer killed in action during the 1947-48 Indo-Pakistani War and was posthumously honored with the Maha Vir Chakra.

Captain Abbas Ali, a member of Subhas Chandra Bose’s Indian National Army, was court-martialed and sentenced to death for his role in the struggle against British colonial rule.

Owaisi’s remarks underscore ongoing debates about the historical narratives of India’s independence and the recognition of all contributors to the nation’s freedom.
