Chicago – June 19, 2025

On Thursday, the White House announced that President Donald Trump will decide within two weeks whether the U.S. will take military action against Iran.

Trump said in a statement, read by White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt, that he would make his decision depending on the possibility of future talks with Iran. This statement helps reduce speculation that the U.S. is planning to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities as tensions between Iran and Israel grow.

Leavitt added that the U.S. believes Iran is closer than ever to having a nuclear weapon. However, Trump has not confirmed whether the U.S. will join Israel in attacking Iran’s nuclear sites.

“We have the ability to do it, but that doesn’t mean I will,” Trump said earlier in the week.
